Sam Perera  MBA, CAIA, CF, MBI

Sam Perera is the founder of Abacus North and leads all mortgage banking and direct lending engagements. His primary responsibilities include structuring, negotiation, and monitoring real-estate related debt products. Extensive knowledge in a variety of industries including real–estate, manufacturing, mining, lumber, agriculture, technology, services industries and consumer products. Before founding Abacus North, Sam held senior finance roles at HSBC Bank Canada, BMO Bank of Montreal and Noverra Capital Partners. Deal experience includes mergers & acquisitions financing, cash-flow lending, hybrid debt products, construction financing, expansion capital, mezzanine financing and the public markets.

 

Educational background includes a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and MBA (Finance) from the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. Sam has a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation (CAIA), Corporate Finance designation from the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada and MBI (Mortgage Broker Institute). His interests include travelling, hockey, cricket, soccer, jazz music and is engaged in an active lifestyle.

AJ Dealwis

AJ Dealwis is Partner at Abacus North. His responsibilities include organizational developments, customer relations, brand management, quality control and strategic growth, both in the US and Canada. AJ is experienced in identifying business efficiencies, process improvement opportunities and analysing real-estate transactions.

 

AJ has over 15 years of experience in operations and business process management for National Securities, a Broker Dealer based in Los Angeles and New York City. AJ also helped co-found California Preschool Brokers; a business brokerage company that specializes in the valuations, purchase and sale of privately owned pre-school businesses and/or properties within the State of California. His interests are travelling, playing squash, golf, basketball, cricket, and tennis.

Rosi Hunter

Rosi started her career in personal finances at BlueShore Financial in 2018, where she specialized in relationship management, investments, and residential real estate lending. She holds an Associate of Arts & Science from Langara College, completed the Investment Funds in Canada course at the Canadian Securities Institute, and UBC’s Sauder School of Business Real Estate Division Mortgage Brokers in BC licensing program. Now working in underwriting for commercial real estate finance with Abacus North Capital, she is passionate about sustainable development strategy, specifically how ESG principles can add value for developers, homeowners, and business owners alike. She is responsible for overseeing underwriting and loan funding processes, as well as developing workflow and increasing administrative efficiency.

 

Her interests include yoga, hiking, fishing, fine art, and music.
